Crystal Barnes

Having gained my BSc Hons and Masters, I first worked in primary and then further education, including in a specialist residential setting supporting visually impaired students. With the benefit of some experience, I achieved my PGCE qualification and worked in mainstream further education colleges. I then gained specialist qualifications including a SpLD Certificate, Level 7 SpLD Diploma and my Assessment Practitioner Certificate. This enabled me to provide literacy tuition to one to one and small groups of students and undertake dyslexia assessments.

While working in further education colleges, I undertook roles including Learning Support Team Leader and Basic Skills Co-ordinator. Since 2008 I have worked as a specialist literacy tutor in secondary and independent schools.

I began teaching at Ashford Dyslexia Centre in 2019 and last year I renewed my Assessment Practitioner Certificate to assess for dyslexia.
